Students,

We only have three sessions remaining until all of us are free to relax and enjoy our winter breaks. It is important that we spend our remaining time working on things that will allow us to easily jump straight back into our work when we return in January.

The Revolution Herald Project is devoted to exploring solutions to the greatest problems facing humanity in the 21st century. In short, we want to end suffering for as many human beings (and beyond) as possible. Ask yourselves, why is it so hard to believe that humanity can find a way to bring water to the thirsty? Why is it hard to believe that we can feed the hungry, no matter where they are on earth? Why is it so difficult to see that happiness and freedom from suffering have the potential to transform this world?

Watch “The Greatest Speech”

In the same spirit of The Greatest Speech by Charlie Chaplin, you have an assignment to complete. I want you to first realize the following:

  • Humanity has NEVER had access to the information and technology that many of us take for granted. Kings and Queens of past millennia would be in awe of our ability, knowledge base and power.
  • Humanity faces greater threats today than ever before, and most of these threats are man-made.
  • Just as we face greater threats than ever before, we also have greater potential to explore solutions like never before as a direct result of the knowledge and technology we’ve cultivated over the centuries.

Your assignment is simple, but will require focus and time. You must create two TOP TEN LISTS. Choose two topics out of the following three options:

  • Top Ten List of Greatest Threats Facing Humanity in the 21st Century
  • Top Ten List Best Solutions for Eliminating Human Suffering in the 21st Century
  • Top Ten Conspiracy Theories that Explain Why the World Is the Way it Is in the 21st Century

Your lists need to be created in a thoughtful way. You need to include the following in your list on a digital document:

  1. Create a list of the ten things asked for in each category, but do not create the list first. Do your research! Search on Google and put time into making sure you are actually diving deeply into these topics and don’t miss anything.
  2. Be sure to include a link to an article / website / video / that convinces you that your choice is legitimate so anyone can click and study your findings.
  3. For each item, explain (short paragraph) why the items on your list belong on the Top Ten.

This assignment must be:

  • Typed
  • Thoughtful
  • Submitted Twice (email to timbjornstad@me.com & share with the bjornstad_t@4j.lane.edu Google Docs accout)
  • Neat
  • Complete (sentences, length, depth)
  • Turned in by Thursday @ end of Period (with Thursday Status Report)
